I have the feeling that the answer to this is going to be "You're totally screwed", but I figure I might as well ask.

I just upgraded my KnoppMyth from an old one--R5A22, I think it was. I followed all of the instructions about setting up a backup, converting the backup to the new format and so on, but I clearly must have done something wrong, because when I tried to restore the backup in the new version, I got all sorts of error messages. Long story short, after some flailing around I decided to just do a clean install. No problem, I figured; my /myth/tv directory is on a separate HD, so all I'll lose is my upcoming recordings, which I can spend a few minutes re-creating.

I'm sure the experts are now saying, "You fool! You foolish, foolish fool!"

I forgot that the /myth/tv directory has completely opaque filenames, and that the information connecting those opaque filenames to the title of the show is in the SQL database, which I clobbered with the clean install.

So now I'm left with a couple hundred TV shows with names like "1002_20060919220000_20060919230000.nuv". Am I totally screwed? Is there any to figure out which file name corresponds to which show, short of watching them all? If I do have to watch them all, is there any way to at least do it within the MythTV interface? They don't appear in my "Watch Recordings", of course, because they aren't in the database.

Any help would be appreciated.

Look in the /myth/pretty directory. With luck it won't have been wiped out.

Thanks, but I checked, and sadly, it was clobbered.

If you've still got a backup on that /myth partition you can extract the information on the recorded programs from that... Search for a post with all of the terms "mythconverg.sql" and "recorded" for some clues.

My recollection is that the example came from some MythTV documentation or mailing list message and the file names didn't exactly match, but it provided a good starting point.

I think that my backup is pretty much mangled, but I'll give that a look. Thanks!
