Well after reading up on what I thought was most of the threads to do with upgrading/installing R5E50, I took the plunge tonight... And am now in the process of reverting back to R5D1.

My problems are as follows, and any help would be much appreciated!!

Problem #1)

Now I've read about in the posts that this is due to the nvidia drivers.
I'm able to complete the install be modifying my xorg.conf file, and change "nvidia" to "vesa". However, playback with this is nasty to say the least!!
A bit more reading led me to try and install the nvidia drivers manually running the script and specifying the version.
It seems this has worked for people with newer Gfx cards, but as mine is quite old, I wouldn't have thought it would make a difference.
Anyway, to install the drivers, I need to download the kernel source, leading me onto problem #2...

Problem #2)
No net connection! With R5D1, it autodetected fine, but when installing E50, it errors at the DHCP stage. I tried running pump -i eth0 at the command prompt and that errors too.

Has anyone managed to overcome these problems?
I read one post where someone installed a different Gfx card for the install, which got his net working, and then installed his newer Gfx card afterwards following the instructions about downloading the kernel source etc... but as I have no other Gfx card lying about, I can't do this.

Any suggestions welcome!

Hi,

Have you tried to run # netcardconfig --force to set up the ethernet? Does it show anything in the $ dmesg about "discovering" ether net card?

If you have the vesa driver working, most any vga card should give you a display while you trouble shoot the network.

Ya, I'd really recommend the netcardconfig --force, it worked for me. I'm on an asus p4p800 mobo. I still have to get my video card going, but its been 5 minutes so far .
