Been away for a week now getting back into this.
Is there a way to use a TV to tune in stations and then find out the stations frequency from the TV ?
Also, when I plug Foxtel straight in, thought RCA -> Svideo, I get a picture, but it is black and white. I haven't fiddled with it, but thought I'd mention it in case it triggers someone's memory about what could be causing my problems.

Quote: Is there a way to use a TV to tune in stations and then find out the stations frequency from the TV ? It depends on the model of the TV. It might be worthwhile having a look at your VCR setup as well. Quote: Also, when I plug Foxtel straight in, thought RCA -> Svideo, I get a picture, but it is black and white. If it's an RCA output, then it will be Composite, so you need to use the composite adapter for your card and capture from the Composite1 input.

You could try to call a station and make sure that you have the feq's correct

Man this is frustrating!
I found our big, new, main TV (LCD) has the channel info. Prime is 65 (?)
I setup a few channels and then went back into Mythtv to check them. There's simply no different when I change channels, just the same amount of snow, same colour, same frequency, just not a change. Its like no antenna is plugged in.
update: This is in my dmesg lots of times.
Code: tuner 0-0061: tuner type not set
I think this may be the problem. Doesn't PVR-350 work out of the box with any recent Knoppmyth ?

Looks like one of the new 350's
Quote: tveeprom 0-0050: Hauppauge model 48139, rev K2B7, serial# 8654550 tveeprom 0-0050: tuner model is Philips FM1216ME MK5 (idx 117, type 4)
There was something in the ivtv mailing lists archives about this last time I was researching something there. I think you can use the modprobe.conf trick given the appropriate values. See the ivtv mailing list archives at Gossamer Threads and search for the "Philips FM1216ME MK5" part there...

Thanks for testing! This tuner will be automatically detected starting with kernel 2.6.19.

So I think I need to upgrade the kernel in Knoppmyth.
*heads to kernel.org hoping he can built a kernel successfully*

FYI
root@myth:~# rmmod ivtv
root@myth:~# modprobe ivtv tuner=38
The above is not working. That is dmesg is still saying, unknown tuner.

I don't think you can pass the option like that. You need to put it in the /etc/modprobe.conf file (you'll need to create it). See the troubleshooting pages on the wiki for the correct format.

Oh ok. I didnt have modprobe.conf and so added a file in /etc/modutils/ called ivtv and with the suggested parameters.
I have loaded the bt878 modules using the above method (using a tuner= and radio= parameter)

I wasn't kidding. Undo that ivtv file then cut & paste the following into a root shell session:
Code: echo "include /etc/modprobe.d" >>/etc/modprobe.conf echo "options ivtv tuner=38" >>/etc/modprobe.conf

Thats what this line did.
Code: root@myth:/var/log# cat /etc/modutils/ivtv > /etc/modprobe.conf
Found the problem. The page linked to in my above post had option not option s. Changed that and it looks good Code: Jan 31 16:45:25 myth kernel: tuner 0-0061: type set to 38 (Philips PAL/SECAM multi (FM1216ME MK3))
Can't wait to get home now and test this out!

Thanks for everyones help.
I have channels tuned !
Still have black and white using RCA cable from FoxTel box to RCA-Svideo converter to the PVR-350. But haven't even tried anyone's suggestions on that or anything yet; have just been setting up the analogue channels.

Could you do me a favor and update the wiki pages to include this 350? (CheckingLogFiles, TVCaptureCards, and the main BlackScreenWatchingTV page) Anywhere it talks about the TCL M2523_*_E add in the info for the Phillips MK5 you've got.
Thanks.
