G'day all,

Subject says it all really!

I eventually managed to upgrade to to R5E50.
I have a pvr350 and a pvr150.
I can schedule recording on different channels, but when I watch live TV I can only watch the channel that it starts on, I can't move up or down.

Everything else seems to work (remote does not I am using KBD at the moment)

I can bring up the EPG and scroll around there.
I change the setup so that you can select a channel from the EPG and I can change channels from there successfully.

I have also just noticed that when you go to up/down prev/next channels, the OSD displays the channel ID/number but the contents are 'unknown' and this is the same when you press 'I'.
So it must be something to do with the channel line up or some such.

mythfilldatabase is not running either!

Stumped!!!

Upgraded from what version?

Did you see the R5E50 upgrade hints?

Did you follow the directions there to drop and recreate all of your capture cards?

After you deleted all you card definitions and recreated them did you remember to recreate the input connections?

Did you check your video source to make sure that the connection information was still right?

Have you been through the troubleshooting pages on the wiki?

G'day all,

>Upgraded from what version?
r5a22

>Did you see the R5E50 upgrade hints?
yes

>Did you follow the directions there to drop and recreate all of your capture cards?
Yes, or the backend would fail

>After you deleted all you card definitions and recreated them did you remember to recreate the input connections?
Not sure, if I actually needed to do anything, but they are associated now and I don't see anyway of deleteing them, so can I assume they are OK?

>Did you check your video source to make sure that the connection information was still right?
Yes, I believe so, also it is tha same as one I have on a test boxm where I am playing with DVB setup (and it sort of works!)

>Have you been through the troubleshooting pages on the wiki?
Yes, been through loads of pages, just not what to do next...

mythfilldatabase is not running either!

I think these two things are probably related. If mythfilldatabase was running, then the contents wouldn't be "unknown", because they would be downloaded by mythfilldatabase.

Maybe you should post the error messages from running mythfilldatabase (as user mythtv) and if might help a bit.

I'd also recommend checking your DB integrity. Look for Cecil's sticky posting...

G'day all,

funkydan2...
I have managed to fix the mythfilldatabase problem, well sort of, I just noticed it did not run last night it said
Quote:
Last mythfilldatabase run started on 2007-02-08 06:25 and ended on 2007-02-08 06:36. mythfilldatabase ran, but did not insert any new data into the Guide. This can indicate a potential grabber failure.

But I have another test box that said the same so it might be a bogus error, I ran it manually and it worked OK, so I will have a look tomorrow and see if it runs OK.

tjc
I checked mysql and there are no error's, I think there were, but just wanted to make sure.

I did some more investgation and found...
I can schedule a recording and it works OK.
When watching live tv...
I can use the EPG to change channels.
I can use the number buttons to enter the channel number.

I can't use the up/down keys on either the keyboard or the remote to change channels.

I think there is something screwy with the channel lineup!

If I could find rock solid instructions on how to redo the channel lineup I would, but there does not seem to be any, most people are using DVB or are in the US using zapit.
It took me ages last time to get it working and I think I must have done some crock setup, that while it worked before does not any more.

So if anyone has simple instruction on how to do a setup in the UK using tv_grab_uk_rt for just the 4 basic channel bbc1/bbc2/itv/c4 I will blow it away and redo it.

(I have managed to get the remote working again)

(I am also going to add a dvb-s card to the mix at some point in the future it is my test box at the moment)

The Default setting for live TV is that you have to press the OK key to switch to a channel, it doesn't normally just switch channels. I believe this is due to the pause you would have between each channel as the system buffered the input. You should see the OSD showing the information for the other channels as you press the channel up/down keys.
You can change this setting in the setup menu (Utilities/Setup->Setup->TV Settings->General->first screen.)

The easiet way I've found to do th uk_rt set up is when you see the progress bar stick and you have Alt-Tabbed to the terminal screen is to type in all when prompted for abc1. This is easier than going through the list, pressing "no" 99% of the time.
SSH into your box or Ctrl-Alt-Fnn to login as mythtv, then:
Code:
cd .mythtv
Then use nano to edit the list created to remove the unwanted xmltv ID entries. This file will have the name given with the extension .xmltv.
Save out the file with the four remaining xmltv IDs.
You should be good to go with the next mythfilldatabase.

G'day Bruce,

Thanks for the help.

You are correct in changing channels that OK is needed.
But what I am seeing is, when up or down is pressed, the OSD pops up, but we can't select another channel, it is like there is only one channel to watch.
Everthing else seems to be correct.

I have just noticed something else...
When I watch livetv, it starts on the last channel we were watching, but if I go to select a channel using up/down then we always get channel 4 only and I can switch to that channel and then that is it, I can select another channel by using the epg or entering the number but not by using up/down.

It almost as if mythtv thinks there is only one channel available when using the up/down keys.

also mythfilldatabase fail again with...
Quote:
Last mythfilldatabase run started on 2007-02-08 06:25 and ended on 2007-02-08 06:36. mythfilldatabase ran, but did not insert any new data into the Guide. This can indicate a potential grabber failure.

But if I run it manually it work? Is this a permissions thing, it used to run from cron on the previous version r5a22.

I am not sure if the two problems are related or not?

This is truely strange and something I've no answer for, sorry.

If mythfilldatabase runs OK from the command line if you are logged on as mythtv, then it appears you have problem which appeared earlier, you need to use a wrapper script as in this thread.

Been there!

I have created a script with some logging to tmp so I can try and see what is happening.

If it fails again and I can't work it out I will probably just go back to running it from cron like it used to and see if that works.

Hey all,

I too am having the same problem with a clean install of R5E50. I have reinstalled from scratch many times. To be truthful I haven't done much digging into the logs. The one common denominator is that we both are using PRV350 cards.

Thanks,

G'day all,

The mythtfill issue seemed to be with the internet source and not my mythtv.
I did think that this was the case, since I have a test server and that was failing as well!

My channel changing problem was due to having two rows in the database with the same id's.
I assume the database query was returning more than one row and getting confused, I now only have one entry for each of the channels and it works, of course this broke my schedules so I had to reenter them all, or at least the ones I could.
I did try hammering the db, but I could not find the correct data to update so that the mythfilldatabase would match, I gave up in the end!
