Just started a new mythtv build with some bits i got of ebay

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/ ... hp?UID=316

Im using the above MS-6526G-L (10/100 LAN) motherboard
with 256mb ram
onboard audio
onboard video
analogue hauppauge wintv go tuner (for now, have 2 dvb tuners in another knoppmyth r5a16 box) and another dvb tuner coming from ebay

Hardware went together very easily, booted first time.
Knoppmyth r5e50 seems to have installed ok

but ... no audio from mythstream (or anything), no video from tuner card but that could be the crappy aerial, will move it when things have moved on a bit

Onboard ac97 audio (detected as i810) is not working, this is problem number 1

Ive tried alsaconfig and alsamixer but no joy, perhaps the onboard sound is dead on this mobo (its enabled in bios), any way to check for sure ??

Thanks in advance

dkj

even after using alsaconfig

i must be missing something simple here but i cant see it.

Did you disable the onboard audio when you tried the Soundblaster?
Also, try running alsamixer and un-muting all of the outputs (pressing M toggles between muted/unmuted).

Thanks
TRied that, made no difference...

I have now tried the onboard sound and 2 different soundcards
none of these will produce any sound in "livetv"

Ive not gone back to try the onboard sound but both soundcards are producing output with streaming radio... so where am i missing the config point....

is /dev/dsp somehow being detected as the disabled onboard sound ?

Ive tried changing every setting i can for settings of the video card and the plyback settings on mythtv but im still struggling.

My last mythtv install (18 months ago) was a bit of a nightmare (kernel rebuild etc, but I got there in the end)

I pretty exciting about the new features and im planning a new 'near silent' build as my current box is noisier than i would like....

its a MATX mobo so if i can get onboard sound working that would be brilliant as it means i could have 3 dvb tuners.

Any pointers would be welcome as im running out of ideas.

Have you managed to get sound playback using Xine or Mythmusic from an uploaded file to check that your sound output is OK?
Have you tried in the card setup /dev/dsp1 ?

Nope not tried that yet but will do, the fact that streaming radio works ok within knoppmyth seems ok, why does it work and livetv does not

Im starting to suspect the tunercard setup now.....
edit - just tried connecting the speakers to the output of the analogue wintvgo audio out. Im getting sound output from it ok, its out of sync with the video (due to buffering), so where im struggling then is to see how to connect the output of the tuner to the input of the soundcard, i could do this with an audio lead, but i dont think thats correct ?

My current setup does not do this but it uses DVB cards

aha !
looking here

http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/manuals/qi-wintv.pdf

the installation for windows implies you need a patch lead to connect the audio out from the wintvgo to the input to the soundcard....

perhaps this as also required for mythtv, if so it would be limiting surely as it would mean that you could not have multiple wintvgo cards in the same box...

the plot thickens......

Yes. With a bttv type card (raw YUV frame grabber using software encoding) you need a jumper from the card to your sound cards audio input (mic. or line-in) to record the audio track. This means that you need a sound card for each bttv card you have.

The ivtv type (PVR with hardware MPEG-2 encoder) cards incorporate the audio directly into the encoded stream. The DVB HDTV cards (including ATSC HDTV) capture a pre-encoded MPEG-2 stream with the audio already included.

This is all covered on this wiki page: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=PickingComponents

Ive just move this to a antec nsk2400 case (rather nice) and in the process worked out why i had no audio

This motherboard requires you to jumper some pins on a header if you dont use the audio header (for front audio connections)

Old case did not have front audio ports - new case does, so upon referring to the manual i spotted this, thus im getting audio now.

Hope this helps someone as it had me stumped for ages.
