Hi everyone
i just installed knoppmyth in my sony vaio desktop, i have a Hauppauge 250 tv tuner card and it seems to have been detected correctly. i was trying to get the settings so i could connect to my directv box.
here is my problem, im not sure what am i supposed to set to the channel frecuency table, i have tried us-cable, us-cable-hrc and ux-cable-irc, none of this settings are able to find the channels, i also tried us-bcast, and it finds channels 2,7,11,20 and thats it. (i have not tried to watch so im not sure if they work). so im totally ignorant as what setting will work. i also read something about directv needing a serial cable to change channels?, not sure about anything, its the first time i have tried using mythtv.
what am i doing wrong?
thanx in advance.

update:
SInce i couldn't get anything to come up with any settings connected to the satelite box or directly to the cable from the satelite dish, i disconnected the dish and just connected a rabbit antena, i set the frecuency to none and to us-bcast and it detected all my local channels. And am watching the sipmsons recording that it did from live tv (with out me asking tho). so all things seem to work smoothly, i just couldn't connect the satelite.
my tvtuner card has a s-video and rca inputs that i can still use i think but what is the setting for directv? is not cable or any other cable setting. i tried channel 3 to see if it could get the signal from the satelite coming from my vcr, but it came scrambled.
Do i need an extra interface just to get the directv signal to come thru?

There are a lot of good resources to draw from on this.
A couple of Searches here and over on Knoppmythwiki.org are your friends.
It can take a bit until you get used to how the Search functions work.
The key would be the Pamphlet below, the Installation Documents abd getting your Zap2It account setup.
Most of that should be covered below. You will have to tell your setup what to use. Most people attaching to a SetTopbox like DirectTv or Dish Network use the Svideo input. The PVR-250 you have only has one Capture (MPEG 2 Encoder) built in, so you can only use 1 of it's inputs at a time, S-video, Composite or Tuner.
With S-video or composite you don't need a Frequency setting, just follow the instructions in pages below. You will however need the appropriate video cable and an Audio cable from your Settop box to the Audio plug ins on the back of the Capture card.

Most people use IR Blaster's but here is a setup to Control your Direct TV SetTopbox via Serial

Good Luck![/url]

thanx BIgbro
that's all i needed, a little guidance to the right info. i was not aware i had to set up zap2it and all that. so i got it working, although there isn't a way to change the channels from the computer i can see the guide and if i need to change the channel i use the directv box for now, it seems easier to use mythtv with cable, so we probably will change to cable soon. so thanx for the help i can at least record programs as i learn how myth works. i guess the only thing i could do is get a serial cable and drop a script for the channels?, that's what i gathered at least.

Depends on the cable box, if it has a serial port and it hasn't been deactivated that's a good choice, Firewire is also a good option, and worst comes to worst you can generally use an IR blaster.

i got two satelite boxes, an older rca (couldn't find the number it say's rca plus i think), it has a port like a telephone and say's serial port, then i have a d10-300, am not sure what brand since it don't say, i don't think it has a serial port (that's the box am connected to right now). So i imagine the older box will be the one. Now what kind of cable do i need, because i don't have a thing like that on my computer to connect to. just firewire and usb. Thats why am probably changing to cable, seems like an easy solution.
thanx for the help.
