Hi all,

I replaced my analog 18inch CRT with this beauty from Costco. It works out of the box using VGA and DVI using my old xorg.conf file.

How do I regenerate the xorg.conf so it has my new monitor stuff?

I wonder if my 5200FX card will support it?

Thanks,

John

Should if it's a decent one. Get yourself a good DVI cable, hook it up, and let the EDID detection do the rest. You may want to make sure that the X config file doesn't disable that, and that you've got appropriate mode lines.

Thanks for the reply. I am using the DVI cable that came with the monitor.

That's why I wanted to regenerate from scratch so that all that stuff is set.

I guess I need to google EDID.

EDID and DDC are just a standard mechanism for you video card to query your monitor to get information on it's capabilities. Some WS TVs lie and report lower capabilities than they really support, but real monitors are pretty good about providing the correct resolutions and sync timings.

If I reinstalled auto-upgrade would it recreate the file with all my new specs?
I'm assuming there is no other way.
