Thanks for taking the time to help me. I downloaded KnoppMyth vR5A30 yesterday so I've got a fairly new version. I've got everything working except for my turner card. Quite simply I don't think its getting detected.
At boot I get "No Multimedia Device Found....". It scrolls to fast I can't read the rest.
I ran lspci to get the model on my turner card and here's the output:
Code: 0000:00:14.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7130 Video Broadcast Decoder (rev 01) I went to Video4Linux's site to see if my card was supported and it seems like it was. I found a driver that supported the saa713x. Here's the link: http://linux.bytesex.org/v4l2/saa7134.html . So I know my card will work I just need to find a way. I'm not sure which version of V4L KnoppMyth comes with so I can't be sure if they include this driver already. Anyway taking the last option I had, I downloaded the driver from: http://dl.bytesex.org/releases/video4linux/ and extracted it on my MythTV box. I looked at the files and really I have no idea how to compile the drivers. There's not much help in the doc directory. :( There's no ./configure command so I skipped to making. Make failed and so did make install. Update, I thought the above until I did dmesg. Turns out it does recognize my card. So something else is going wrong. When I press Watch TV I get a blank black screen. At start I still get that "No Multimedia Device Found" Here's my dmesg output: Code: Linux video capture interface: v1.00 saa7130/34: v4l2 driver version 0.2.14 loaded ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [PIN1] enabled at IRQ 9 PCI: setting IRQ 9 as level-triggered ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:14.0[A] -> Link [PIN1] -> GSI 9 (level, low) -> IRQ 9 saa7130[0]: quirk: PCIPCI_NATOMA saa7130[0]: found at 0000:00:14.0, rev: 1, irq: 9, latency: 120, mmio: 0xf75ffc00 saa7130[0]: subsystem: 1131:0000, board: Sabrent SBT-TVFM (saa7130) [card=42,autodetected] saa7130[0]: board init: gpio is 38500 saa7130[0]: Huh, no eeprom present (err=-5)? tuner (ivtv): chip found at addr 0xc2 i2c-bus saa7130[0] tuner: type set to 17 (Philips NTSC_M (MK2)) by saa7130[0] tuner (ivtv): chip found at addr 0xc6 i2c-bus saa7130[0] tuner: type set to 17 (Philips NTSC_M (MK2)) by saa7130[0] saa7130[0]: registered device video0 [v4l2] saa7130[0]: registered device vbi0 saa7130[0]: registered device radio0 e100: Intel(R) PRO/100 Network Driver, 3.4.8-k2-NAPI e100: Copyright(c) 1999-2005 Intel Corporation ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:03.0[A] -> Link [PIN4] -> GSI 15 (level, low) -> IRQ 15 e100: eth0: e100_probe: addr 0xeffff000, irq 15, MAC addr 00:06:29:73:15:D1 Linux agpgart interface v0.101 (c) Dave Jones NET: Registered protocol family 17 bttv: driver version 0.9.16 loaded bttv: using 8 buffers with 2080k (520 pages) each for capture bttv: Host bridge needs ETBF enabled. bt878: AUDIO driver version 0.0.0 loaded saa7146: register extension 'dvb'. saa7146: register extension 'budget dvb'. saa7146: register extension 'budget_ci dvb'. saa7146: register extension 'budget_av'.
Any ideas? Kind of stumped right now. Much thanks, Alex[/code]

:X I feel kind of like an idiot now. :P Those directory listings can be tricky sometimes right?
As they say newer is always better. I'll get the newest version and report back to you. :)
Thanks,
Alex

Its the same person as above. I installed the new version and it recognized my card- under probed info it lists the model of my card. I tried to change the input source of the card but its stuck on default. Shouldn't it be set on "Television" or some equivalent?
When ever I "Watch TV" it turns black and its real buggy to get back to the main screen. I see no video and hear no audio. Almost there! Please help!
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

For me, "watch tv" is buggy anyway, and I hardly ever use it.
Record something instead, and watch it as it records.
You can't fiddle with the backend setup while the backend is running. So before pressing Alt+S to get into backend setup, press Alt+2 to stop the backend. Wait a few seconds, THEN Alt+S for setup. If you get the warning that the backend is running, you did it wrong.
Alt+3 to restart the backend when you're done with setup.

Okay I tried to record a program. I let it go for a few minutes then I stopped it. When I try to play it back, the whole video is black. I think the turner is trying to record from something other than the TV input. Like I said above I can't change the video source from default. It's like its locked in that selection.
Thanks again,
Alex

You're not being terribly clear. Are you talking about the one on the Capture Card definition page? Are you sure you've selected the right card type and device?

Sorry I'll try to be as clear as I can.
On the Setup page for the Capture Card I think I've got the right device defined. I'm using the default device for the V4L drivers. On that same page there's a field for video source. On the last old version I had I was able to set this to television. This never version won't let me. Instead it sits on 'default'. This could get the cause of my problem, it could not be.
I just did another recording and the show showed up black on my recording. From past use of my card on windows there was always a selection for S Video, Composite, and Cable. I don't think MythTV is switching to the correct video source.
Here's the output of mythbackend while attempting to record:

Some of that doesn't look good :/ I'm gonna try what it says. What setup would you recommend. Right now I haven't changed any settings.
Update: I tried mpeg4 encoding and got the same black screen result.

This looks like a big part of your problem. You may need to wade through the TV settings stuff and set up capture profiles. Did you do a clean setup with the R5E50 installation? That really should have set up good profiles...

Same guy. I finally registered my own account instead of using those crappy bugmenot accounts.
I did do a fresh install that overwrote any previous settings I'd had. When I switched to the Mpeg4 software encoder I got no errors but the video was still black. I guess I can mess with more settings though and try different combinations. I'll reply if I have any luck.
Thanks,
Alex

This wiki post may help with that.
