thanks tjc, this is starting to make sense.

In order to create separate video sources, do I just need to create different names, yet still point each source to zap2it website?

i.e.

Create a video source called, 'sdzap2it' and point that download the lineup from zap2it web site

and

Create a video source called, 'hdzap2it' and point that download the lineup from same zap2it web site

Then when configuring the two tuner cards associate the PVR-500 to the 'sdzap2it' source and when setting up my Airstar card associate that to the 'hdzap2it' source

Do I actually need to set up two accounts on zap2it in order to create two different lineups (i.e. one lineup for SD and one for HD channels)? Or do I just use the same zap2it lineup for both tuner cards?

Presumably, whatever I do I need to end up with one lineup, since I will only be able to look at one lineup on mythweb (I think)

<edit> Decided to give the above a try. From the program guide it now switches automatically between the PVR-500 and Airstar tuners when I switch betwwen watching a SD and a HD channel :D

Just one thing I am not sure about ..

Do I need to set up a different video source for each of the two tuners of my PVR-500?

If I use the same video source will it be able to switch betwwen the two tuners of the PVR-500 when I am recording one chanel and decide I want to watch another SD channel?

You can setup multiple lineups from one zap2it account. I'd recommend one that only contains the SD channels (zap2it will let you select the appropraite subset) and one that only contains the HD channels

For the PVR-500 inputs you should use a single video source and lineup, since they're connected to and tuning the same feed. If you had 2 PVR-150s connected to different feeds (say one on cable and one on an antenna), then you'd want seperate video sources.

Recordings (whether scheduled or for "live" tv) use the next available input, so if you're recording something and go to watch something else live it'll either give you the unused tuner or an "all inputs are currently in use" message if all the tuners are busy.

tjc,
thanks for great advice, everything is clear to me now. I will go and set up a 2nd lineup (one for HD) for my Airstar card (HD channels),

bbear,

I have and hdhomerun and a pvr-150. I can switch inside of the guide as well as when I type in the number (although it takes a bit). When I use the channel up or channel down when outside of the guide, It will only sequence through the channels that are on the tuner it is currently on. Running Mythtv has been a nightmare for me especially HDTV. Currently my best results are running off of the version on the HEAD of SVN. I still have problems though with my backend randomally crashing with not logs whatsoever.

tjc,
things were going so well, I created the two lineups in zap2it, but were having problems in channel editor ('e' from watching TV) and getting it to recognize the HD channel names, and not displaying any of the channel icons in the program guide. So, I decided to start off with a clean slate and went into mythtv-setup and deleted my video sources and my capture cards.

I went back in to add the capture cards but I am unable to change the capture card type, using tab I can move between the fields BUT there is no way I can select the top one, i.e. the one where I change the capture card. It is stuck with the card type 'Analog V4L capture card'.

I have seen this problem before, but have managed to sort ot out by some combination of deleting the video sources, stop/start/stop of the backend and/or reboots. To be honest I don't know exactly what I have done to fix this before but after enough desperate attempts I have generally been able to sort it out. This time I appear to be completely stuck.

Does any one have an idea to get this option back in mythtv-setup so that I can add my capture card back in?

<edit> tried everything I could think of and got nowhere, so I decided to remove both the PVR-500 and Airstar card from my system. Then booted up my machine, then shut it down and powered off. Then I plugged my PVR-500 and Airstar back into my system and booted up into setup. Now I am able to select the MPEG2 for PVR-500 and also select my Airstar card :D

Don't know why I had to do all this, I would have thought I should be able to delete all capture cards in setup and add them back in again without actually needing to pull the hardware out of my system. Just another quirk with MythTV I guess. At least I now how to get around this problem the next time it occurs.

ntlord,
thanks for the info on your setup. I am looking at replacing my Airstar with a HDHomerun as I don't have enough pci slots for another Airstar card. I hope that by changing to a HDHomerun that I am going to start to have the issues which you are experiencing. The HDHomerun seems to be a very popular unit so hopefully there is not some fundamental issue with that unit causing your problems. With my Airstar plus PVR-500 setup I *was* able to watch SD and HD TV without any real issue, I do experience stuttering with HD when the OSD is up, but so are a ton of other people it seems. I decided to put that particular problem to one side for fear of growing too many grey hairs. I sometimes see a problem with my Airstar with it dropping out with some sort of message about not being able to display video. I have seen a post about this, again this is something I need to look at later.

thanks,

Kevin
