Use an ftp client that supports sftp. Filezilla works for me.

Not true. Just as on most Linux distributions today, ftp and telnet are disabled for security reasons.

As psicard said use sftp. Regarding telnet, use an ssh (Secure SHell) client to gain access to the system.

Also look into "scp" and "wget". The sshd server on your KnoppMyth box supports incoming ssh (secure remote shell), scp (secure remote copy), and sftp (secure ftp) all over SSL. For downloading files from the outside you can also use wget.

## thank you all !

with sftp and the command 'get' it worked for me, not from the expected windows-machine, configured as a ftp server, but from an other linux box.

Hi,

If you really want a ftp client just apt-get install ftp.

I use bitvise-tunneler for windows. It's got a very decent graphical interface.

I was using psftp previously, but I got sick of all the typing.

I use WinSCP when I want a graphic view into my Myth box and when I want to send files between it and my Windows machines.
For my purposes, it is the same as ftp.

I wonder if we have as many different ftp programs being used by people here as there are people here.

WinSCP is probably a better program for it, since I'm guessing it's designed with a more specific purpose than general ftp.
