Is there a way to restart the slave backend from the master backend automatically or with a key?

I know I can probably xterm over to the slave, login, and run mythbackend -start or something like that, but I'm wondering if there's not an easier way. Due to my keyboard location, it's actually easier to run downstairs and hit alt-3 on the slave instead of using xterm.

My mbe shutdown when I pulled on the keyboard a tad by mistake. After restarting it, the sbe's tuners weren't accessible until I pressed alt-3 on the sbe.

Is there a simple way to restart the sbe without a lot of finagling? Will the sbe automatically try to restart itself after so many minutes?

You could setup the slave so that it allows ssh connections from the master without a password

(try http://www.howtoforge.com/ssh_key_based_logins_putty and use those for the mythtv account)

Then, add a button which does "EXEC ssh slave-IP-address sudo /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend start"

Ok. Thanks Nigel.

I was hoping there was someway already built in, but this will do it.

I run into this same problem all the time. If I have to reboot the master, the master now thinks the slave backend is offline and I miss a lot of recordings.

Have you had luck doing this.

I would like a polling feature that mbe would automatically run
/etc/myth-backend restart on the sbe if the recorders were offline.

I would think that it isn't built in is a bug.

I guess a script that ran such a command at /etc/bootmisc.sh would take care of most problems. or maybe the same command at the end of the /etc/myth-backend of the master.
