I followed the directions for setting up samba to initiate on start up. It worked great but today when I tried to copy files over I couldn’t connect so I tried to use putty to restart samba and it won’t recognize samba as a command. I used apt-get to re-download samba and it still won’t run samba. Any clue’s on what I’m doing wrong?

That is the command I entered but when I try it says samba is not a recognized command. I have gone to the directory and verified that the file is there but for some reason it isn't executable.

To get it to always run on startup you need to enter the following as root:

Code:
update-rc.d samba defaults

BTW, stuff like this can usually be found on the wiki:

Thank you very much for the replies. I did follow the directions on http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=UsingSambaHowTo. I had it setup and working great. After a few reboots i could no longer connect and went to restart samba. That is when i noticed that it wouldn't execute. I was root when I tried to restart samba and it still gave me an error. Today when I tried restarting again it locked up on startup. I think my problems may be related to this thread. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... nge+issues
(not the being hacked part)
One person mentioned about files not executing properly and when he restarted it locked up. I have had problems before with my box not booting after being shutdown a few times and have just reloaded my box. I'm not sure if this is related or not I'm just trying to get to a stable point. Thank you again for your help.
