I'm happy to provide my logs if they will help. As I indicated before, I've seen my backend stop running twice now, without a reboot. Both times were on or around the weekly mythconverg "checked and backedup" log message.

It will be interesting to see if I have a log entry this coming Sunday morning from the baby sitter script indicating that the backend had to be restarted.

Cecil, tjc, I need to recant my previous messages in this thread. My apologies.

The editing of the /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend script detailed in the following message did work for me.

When I noticed the backend not starting problem, I found tjc's script edit solution and did that. I'm not sure why, but it didn't seem to work, so I went looking for another solution. I then found the backend babysitter solution and applied that too. Since the problem stopped after the backend babysitter, I believed that was the solution.

I just disabled the backend babysitter and the backend starting problem remains solved, so I guess that tjc's script edit solution did work on my system!

Good luck to those of you whose backends stop on their own. I am not deep enough into Linux to help you troubleshoot that problem.
