I've had my box running R5A16 for... well, a very long time:-)

Tonight suddenly the list of recordings is full of old deleted recordings (a year old). The date on the machine is right, first thing i checked. Second thing I did was a total reboot.

Did not help. And it does also not work to delete the already deleted recordings... and the machine is VERY slow (my guess is that it is due to a huge recordset).

What to try next? Don's say upgrade, I'm running it on a Pundit-R and have tried getting the graphics to work with newer versions (on another disk) without success.

The family is about to kill me... until the machine is fixed we are without TV (we have no STB and there are since two months no analogue transmissions in our area any more).

I can live with losing all current recordings (they are only a handful and we have watched the important ones), but I'd prefer not to lose the schedules or the information on recorded shows (because then it will start recording the re-runs of shows we have already seen).

I tried a search in the forum but found nothing, it there are any useful old topics please point me to them.

Things are getting even stranger...

I found the topic on the deadwood script and tried it. Thank's to it I could delete the old undeletable recordings.

But then I found out that Previously recorded was totally empty.

And Upcoming recordings was empty to.

The EPG was empty....

When trying to run mythfilldatabase manually the strange thing occured, it said that /home/mythtv/.mythtv/markTest1.xmltv did not exist. I know why it does not exist. I removed it a couple of months ago when I rescanned all channels after the analogue transmissions shutdown. At the same time I set up a new Video source called MarkDigital (with the configuration file MarkDigital.xmltv). So, mythtv is looking for the OLD configuration file... How come? Didn't all references to it get removed when I deleted that source a couple of months ago?

If I didn't know I haven't made any backups I would think someone had restored an old backup...

Seems like I'll just have to reconfigure everything...

I have had the gui menu lockup on me, while the program is actually still going through the menus, I thought it was on reboot in the knoppmyth menu it was actually on restore. It's only happened to me once, but that was pretty bad. It really messed up my database, pretty much what it sounds like happened to you.
Ever since then I've taken regular backups and copied those backups to another computer just to be sure. The only good thing is that your files are still there, you just need to copy them over to video if the database links are bad.
We all learn the hard way.

I suspect elgordo123 is on the right track. It sure sounds like someone did a restore of your database from a very old backup. There is a script called "myth.rebuilddatabase.pl" which will try to repopulate the db with your recordings, but IMO it's only worked well since MythTV 0.20 or so, and any other settings you had are back where they were at the time of your last backup.

Yes, you seem to be on the right track.

Trying the Restore option gives me the same situation as when wife called on me.

It was about 7.10 pm when she called for me and said "there's somthing wrong with the TV", all recordings listed were old EXCEPT the one that was to be recorded at 6 pm. That makes me think that someone (probably one of the kids) mistakingly selected the restore a few seconds after 6 o clock.

What suprised me was that the restore did not ask for any confirmation... I'm going to edit the menus to get an extra level for the restore so it needs some confirmation (i'll do a menu with 5 "Cancel" and one "Yes, restore" to minimize the risk of doing this again).

Well, I'll just have to spend the evening setting everything up again then.

Hi,

Going into the way back machine, there were some issues with house keeping in the A series. By way back, I am thinking maybe even 2 years? Once the recordings changed over to .mpg instead of .nuv the issue has gone away so maybe some of our stuff was added to the script??.

Anyway, long story short, several of the gents on the forum and I figured out what was happening and modified the mythlink.sh script to help maintain a healthy work space. There is a rather long thread on the topic of what, why & etc.

Do a search for "pretty" and mythlink.sh . Myself, I think marc.arronson also beat up on it fairly well. I will also look for the the post to get you started.

Mike

Hi,

This was the area I was refering toward. It pretty much applied to all the A series but may have been a minor adjustment for some. Once that was up and running I have never had any issues with my A26 box and it is being hammered on daily.

That's the topic I found and which helped me a bit (mainly to create the missing files so I could delete those recording). I could probably have created the files myself by looking in the which files it said were missing when I tried to delete, but that script made things easier.

The machine is back in business now, more or less.
