I am using the latest knoppmyth with almost no issue. I record a number of shows and only have issues with an autoexpire once in a while.

I have a one hour show I record 5 days a week. It is set to keep 5 episodes and auto-expire to allow new recordings. Every Tuesday, the recordings have no sound. Every other day seems to be fine, and nothing else seems to record without sound.

My hardware is 2 Hap 250's. Nforce2 motherboard, on board sound. AMD 1.66 Ghz Processor.

Do they all record on the same tuner? Is there another recording on tuesdays that causes it to use a different tuner?

I am not 100% sure they use the same tuner, but I have no other recordings at that time on Tuesdays. At other times, it does use both tuners and I get sound on both recordings.

Sounds strange, but here are some of the things I would look at:

1. Are there any interesting messages in the backend logs (/var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log) or kernel logs (/var/log/kern.log) at the time the no-audio recording is made?

2. Are all recordings of the show from the same channel, or is Tuesday on a different channel? ie: Perhaps your system is OK and there is a channel that is having transmission problems?

Just to update, it seemed to have gone away for a few weeks, but now I am noticing further symptoms.

It no longer seems to be tied to Tuesday. Any extended period of no recordings, the first recording has a chance of having no sound (but only on certain channels). I have noticed this during Live TV as well. For instance if I watch nothing on Saturday and turn on Live TV to watch something on Sunday afternoon, there is a chance there is no sound. If I exit out of watching Live TV, then immediately watch Live TV again, I will have sound again.

The backend logs do show items, but the no sound log looks the same as the with sound log. I will post one tonight.

This was indeed a time when it recorded without sound, but the logs do end up looking the same either way.

I don't have an answer, but I'll try to help out. First, I did a google on "mythtv no sound PVR-250" and found the following:

http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Ha ... _recording

In this article the author solves a similiar sounding problem on a PVR-500:
Quote:
I had the problem that the first time mythtv tunes to a channel (live-tv and recording) sound is not working. Changing channels fixed the sound. I had this problem with ivtv 0.4.1 and 0.4.2. After some help from the mailing list, I found out that executing

ivtvctl -d /dev/video0 -q 0

fixes the sound. I don't know what this command does. However, I had to manually issue this each time I tuned the first time with a tuner. If I execute ivtvctl a second time, I get a sound hickup. So only execute this command once if a tuner is recording. To ease my life, I created this script:

That command sets the audio input number of the hauppauge card to 0.

Another post talks about conflicts between various drivers: http://www.mythtv.org/pipermail/mythtv- ... 87237.html

There are moe posts out there about this topic. If none of the referenced articles help, my inclination would be to pull 1 of the tuners and run as a single tuner system for a while. If that solves the problem, then we know it's caused by some dual-tuner issue.
