OK, so I've got a small problem. I can fix it as long as I have a keyboard attached - but I don't want to have it when I move my shiny new box into the lounge...

I have a WG311v3 Wifi card and was fortunate to find a Wiki page on how to get it working under Linux (Debian based) at this URL:

http://www.jimbo7.com/wiki/index.php?title=WG311v3

It works. Fine.

Putting in my essid and encryption key for WEP and then restarting dhclient - all from the command line, means that I can surf, ping sites and collect news etc on my Knoppmyth box.

But when I reboot, I lose the WEP key - and it won't seem to reconnect automatically.

After rebooting I need to:

set essid again with:
Code:
iwconfig wlan0 essid myessid

set encryption key again with:
Code:
iwconfig wlan0 key my-encryption-key

and then run dhclient from the command line. It warns me that a dhclient session is already open, but then it closes the existing dhclient session, starts a new one and then I'm in...

ndiswrapper is definitely in /etc/modules but for some reason, the system won't pick up the previously defined WEP key.

How do I get it to remember the key and automatically connect to the router when it boots up?

To throw in a minor side issue... When it boots, it does remember the essid - but if I go to try and set the key first - before i set the essid again, it picks up the key but loses the essid and it takes several attempts and the luck of the gods before I can get it to register both... Resetting the essid, then the key seems to work every time. Picks both up straight away and then running dhclient kicks it all into motion.

I suspect that I'm missing something very simple here - so hope that someone can help me with this.

thanks in advance.

Bag.
