I have a suggestion that applies to both mytharchive and myth's uPnP server. I wanted to stimulate some discussion to see what level of interest there might be.

At present, when a recording is archived to DVD, a chapter menu is set up, creating a new chapter in the list for the recording at arbitrary time increments (i.e., every 5 minutes). Myth's uPnP server presently does not serve a chapter list along with the recording.

I suggest improving the mytharchive by using the time endpoint of the commercial cutlist rather than arbitrary time increment points when generating the chapter list. In this fashion, a viewer of a MythBurn DVD merely has to hit the next chapter button in order to gain the advantage of Myth's commercial skip feature.

Similar code can be used to provide a chapter list for the recordings, by providing the byte offset in the recording corresponding to the end of the commercial. The list of byte offsets can be supplied to the uPnP client by an OFF= parameter for the media. I'm trying to track down code for this improvement, which has been incorporated into the Wizd server. See http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1627935&forum_id=568666.

While I haven't used Myth's streaming feature, I imagine similar functionality could be incorporated, although there would most likely be some pause as the stream would need to refill the buffer.

These enhancements can easily improve viewing for non-mythfrontend users, by supplying the commercial skipping feature that mythfrontend users have come to know and enjoy to those viewing recordings on DVD or networked uPnP clients. How can I get the developers interested in this?

paulh is involved with mytharchive development and spends some time on these forums. To get this request in front of the MythTV developers proper, you may want to browse http://mythtv.org/modules.php?name=MythInfo to see if A) Something like this is already in the works and B) You can find a suitable forum to make the request.

Looks like someone has already requested what you propose: http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/2681 although enhancements requests apparently should be made here http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Feature_Wishlist

You're right. I added something into these pages: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Feature_Wishlist_%28Plugin_Addons%29#MythArchive and http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Feature_Wishlist_%28Backend_Addons%29#UPnP_.28Universal_Plug_and_Play.29_server_and_client_features In this way, we will keep these ideas alive. Hopefully they will get implemented.
