Just did a fresh install, went well. However, alsamixer won't always run. Ran once, now hangs. trying as root. Also, alsactl store... didn't. But now I can't even get sound without the mixer. help...

is there a way to check if alsa is installed correctly? /var/lib/alsa/asound.state doesn't exist. /etc/default/aumix doesn't exist. and the wiki seems to say that ALSA may not be properly installed.

I tried to reinstall alsa from the D1 directions on the wiki... to no avail.

In a move of desparation I've tried installing MythDora 4.0 (lot's of trouble) and Then dropped back to R5E50 and still can't get sound working. I really doubt I have a hardware problem as it was working yesterday in R5F1 until I rebooted, lost the unsaved alsamixer settings and then couldn't get alsamixer to ever run again.

At the moment, I'm hung at 'Setting default volumes...' after running alsaconf on a fresh install of E50. I'm really bummed.

I don't know if this will work, but are you running alsactl as root?

I am having the same trouble. alsaconf hangs on the lasts steps of writing out the .state file. I get no sound.

I use SPDIF with an intel MB. I can get into alsamixer and unmute the spdif, but it doesn't help. Also, when I reboot, it is muted again.

Yes as root, hangs. alsamixer as root hangs.
