Like the GBS.tv script used in the Internet Streams section of Knoppmyth I decided to add a new button to the list. I wanted to have Mplayer load a streaming broadcast from www.tomgreen.com so I may watch the 11pm live show on my TV. I have copied the GBS.tv launch script and changed the URL to point to http://www.tomgreen.com/mainqt.mov, this does not work.

The player will not load and I have no clue of what I am doing, would someone have mercy on my ignorant scripting skills and write out what might work, script wise to handle this type of job?

Whilst I may not be able to help you with your script I may be able tell you that your stream would not work as I believe KnoppMyth would not have the codec required to play a MOV file.

MOV is a Quicktime movie and not necessarily a "stream" as such. I just went to his website and clicked on his stream and if you click the fullscreen button it will try and load a QTL file. This is a streaming file, but again you will need to have the quicktime codec installed to make it work.

I read up on the codec file listed in the "Hints & Hazards" listed for R5F1 and installed essential codecs pack and have Quicktime listed.

The thread listed in the Hints & Hazards:

7.3) Cecil has taken a more conservative approach on codecs in recent releases. So far everything I've tried has just worked, however, if you encounter some old video, in a format that used to work but doesn't any more, see this posting for details on installing extra codecs - HowTo: Update mplayer & install new CODECs

That being the case, I just need to get the script to test it out and see whether it all works. That is if the extra codecs use Quicktimealternative, if not I'll just install it too.

Oh and by the way thanks for the info on the stream (qtl) didn't know that .mov was not considered a stream, learn something new everyday.

Please don't quote me on the MOV extension just being a file and not a stream, I was simply making an educated guess. Apple may have changed their format at some stage and have quicktime MOVs interpreted a different way (read: MOV maybe a stream)
