My R5C7 box has started acting strangely with fast forward and rewind taking a long time to work and eventually the entire UI becomes non-responsive to the remote control. I figure it's about time to upgrade anyway.

I have run mythbackup as root and copied all of /myth to an external hard drive.

My plan is to do a completely fresh install of the latest release and then mount /myth on the external drive and do a restore.

Anybody think this won't work properly? My root filesystem is currently on SATA but I'm thinking of putting it on the IDE drive when I reinstall. Is there anything in the backup that might mess up a restore if it's to a different type of hard disc?

An auto upgrade is essentially a fresh install and restore. When doing an auto upgrade, only [hs]da1 is reformatted.

Don't forget to see the R5F1 hints before upgrading! :D
