What is the easiest way to get mp3's from my windows xp computer to my knoppmyth computer? I did a search but found no help. I am new to Linux so I would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction. Thank you.

Follow this wiki first to set up SAMBA on your KnoppMyth box:
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=UsingSambaHowTo
Then once that is set up connect to your KnoppMyth box and copy your MP3s to the /myth/music directory. Then in MythTV scan your music folder and your in business.
If you get stuck with any of this let us know which part in particular so we can help you out some more if you need it.

I can't get this to work correctly. I don't yet have a tv tuner card and for now, just want to hook this box up to my tv to play music. I am just connecting the two computers with a crossover cable. The light is not coming on for either network port. After a fresh install of knoppmyth, do I need to do anything to turn on the network port so that I can transfer files from my XP machine? Do I want to enable DHCP broadcast? This computer won't always have internet access.

Hi,
Assuming you have internet connection, I would suggest obtaining a firewall (router), Netgear, Linksys, Belkin, or any-name and then you could have both on the network at the same time. Most units have a built in a 4 port hub for just this purpose.
If you are only using a cross over cable, both machines will need to each have a unique static ip assigned. The dhcp will only obtain an address if you have a firewall / router and that feature is enabled. (usually easy to turn on)
If you are using R5F1 it has a default safety for remote ssh login just to make you aware.

Will it be difficult to have a wireless network card in my mythknopp box? My current setup is: XP computer and linksys cbl modem in my bedroom. The mythknopp box will be in the living room. I would like to keep the modem/ router in my bedroom and then have the mythknopp box connected to the internet wirelessly. Is this a good idea? If that will be too difficult to set up I will move the modem and router to the living room and have the XP comp connected wirelessly. Thanks for the help.

Hi,
I have not setup wireless with my KM machines so I can not tell you how to make it work. I see in the posts many that have been sucessful however it sounds as if you are relatively new to linux so it could be daunting the first time or two
Your second alternative would be my choice of a path and then once all was flying along, then experiment with making wireless work. KM will support two networks nicely so you have somewhere to fall back on until it is running.
If you were to post details then there may be someone on the forum that has step by step help for you.

I haven't purchased a router or wireless adaptor yet. Is there one that is recommended to work on Linux? I see newegg has a MSI adaptor that is said to be Linux certified. As far as my linux experience...I can kinda of get in there and mess with config files as I have had to do this to get TV-out functioning. I could probably do whatever it takes to get wireless up and running on my KM box. I just don't know where to start.

Hi,
One way that works is use two wireless routers. Staples a short while back had Netgear router units on sale for $20 (instant rebate too) anyway, they were for a different project I was working on but having had to test them first, I hooked one to my KM machine and the other to my router and was on line in only as long as took to set the ip's. That was a good thing as I am running R5A26 on that box and I am not sure if wireless had been invented yet.... and fit in an isa slot also.
Maybe someone else has better ideas and suggestions but it is something to get the wheels rolling
