No logfiles. You'll have to start it from an xterm and look at the output.

If you alt tab over it will show you what it is trying to do. Here is mine.

I think the important line in that is "No channels are configured to use the grabber." but I am not sure what would cause that error.

OK, so my output mas a bunch of this:

Quote:
2007-08-26 21:00:56.428 DataDirect: Not adding channel 'AMC' (AMC).

2007-08-26 21:00:56.431 DataDirect: Not adding channel 'Comedy Central' (COMEDY).

I'm assuming this is my problem, but I have no idea what to do. And why does it say DataDirect?

I must admit.. I'm a bit lost in the script on the shorthand.
Code:
tar xjvf xml<tab>
cd xml<tab>
perl Ma<tab> PREFIX=/usr

If I spell it out with
Code:
tar xjvf xmltv-0.5.48.tar.bz2

then I go
Code:
cd xmltv-0.5.48

and I get imaginative with
Code:
perl Makefile.PL PREFIX=/usr

and it runs the script where I say "no" to almost everything .. heck! I'm starting to think that I'm in the weeds..

Then the
Code:
make

just gets me to admit that I have no idea what I'm doing.

Any suggestions?

BluesBrian, what is the script asking you that you are saying "no" to? I don't recall replying "no" to anything...

I've got that one too. But I'm wondering if this isn't some symptom of another problem.

The
Code:
<tab>

just means "hit the tab key". The shell will "prefill" the rest of the command. Just saves keystrokes for typing challenged programmers, including myself. Really easy to get used to if you type at a command line a lot.

I remember having to answer one or two questions. And the default seemed the right one for me so I just hit enter on them. So I don't think you are too far off actually.

Choose which optional components of xmltv you want to install.  The
XMLTV.pm library and the filter programs such as tv_grep and tv_sort
are installed by default; here you choose grabbers for different
countries and front-ends for managing listings.

Grabber for Argentina (tv_grab_ar)                                 [yes]
Grabber for Brazil (tv_grab_br)                                    [yes]
Grabber for Brazil NET Cable (tv_grab_br_net)                      [no]
Grabber for Switzerland (tv_grab_ch_search)                        [yes]
Grabber for Latin America (tv_grab_dtv_la)                         [yes]
Grabber for the UK (tv_grab_uk_rt)                                 [yes]
Fast alternative grabber for the UK (tv_grab_uk_bleb)              [yes]
Grabber for Belgium and Luxemburg (tv_grab_be)                     [yes]
Grabber for Iceland (tv_grab_is)                                   [yes]
Grabber for Italy (tv_grab_it)                                     [yes]
Grabber for North America using DataDirect (tv_grab_na_dd)         [no]
Grabber for North American Channel Icons (tv_grab_na_icons)        [no]
Grabber for Finland (tv_grab_fi)                                   [yes]
Grabber for Spain - Analogic Terrestrial/Cable (tv_grab_es)        [yes]
Grabber for Israel (tv_grab_il)                                    [no]
Alternative grabber for Spain (tv_grab_es_laguiatv)                [yes]
Grabber for the Netherlands (tv_grab_nl)                           [yes]
Alternative grabber for the Netherlands (tv_grab_nl_wolf)          [yes]
Grabber for Hungary and Romania (tv_grab_huro)                     [yes]
Grabber for Denmark (tv_grab_dk)                                   [yes]
Grabber for Japan (tv_grab_jp)                                     [yes]
Grabber for Sweden (tv_grab_se_swedb)                              [yes]
Grabber for Croatia (tv_grab_hr)                                   [yes]

Grabber for Norway (tv_grab_no)                                    [yes]
Grabber for Portugal (tv_grab_pt)                                  [no]
Grabber for South Africa (tv_grab_za)                              [yes]
Grabber that combines data from other grabbers (tv_grab_combiner)  [yes]
Program to report exceptions and changes in a schedule (tv_check)  [yes]
CGI program to filter listings (to install manually) (tv_pick_cgi) [yes]
Grabber for Estonia (tv_grab_ee)                                   [yes]
Grabber for Reunion Island (France) (tv_grab_re)                   [yes]
Grabber for Nouvelle Caledonie Island (France) (tv_grab_nc)        [yes]

Do you want to proceed with this configuration? [yes,no (default=yes)]

I want "yes" for Grabber for North American Channel Icons (tv_grab_na_icons) and "no" for everything else... right?

Got it! That's a cool trick by the shell. I'm a little mystified that the shell can come up with the correct prefills.. but I can believe in magic! hahaha (I'm an SAP ABAPer .. there's not much magic there!)

I just went with "yes" on the "Do you want to proceed with this configuration?" .. and I got..

That's not looking good for my older KM release. (R5C7) and "make" failed with

Looks like upgrade procrastination has not been a very good strategy!

BluesBrian, looks like you would need to get a more recent copy of xmlwriter to do this. I'm on R5D1 -- looks like D1 had that more recent version. I'm not sure where xmlwriter is downloaded from -- maybe someone else knows...

I followed cecil's directions on my RCF1 was successful, but with two problems:

    * All channels are labeled "Adding Channel"
    * The channel selector didn't properly filter out the channels we don't have. I've got the minimal cable subscription, about 15 channels in all. Since the change, Myth now thinks I've got all of the channels offered by Comcast in the area.

Anyone know how to fix these issues? Do I just have to manually fix my channel list?

Looks like there's a few of us that are having these problems. Try watching a channel live and then hit [E]. This will allow you to manually edit the channel. If you name a channel the same as it is in your SD listing, you can "Probe" for the XMLTVID. This is what I've normally had to do for QAM channels, but I can't even get that to work. Maybe you'll have more luck.

Looks like we have the same issue. If I can figure it out, I'll let you know what I did. Here's the output from me trying to populate my channels from the listing.
