One shouldn't run lirc-reconfig. The above steps should be all that is needed. The remote works via a kernel module and not LIRC.

I'm going from a working Wonder setup to the above instructions. Would that have hosed something kernel wise?

I have the remote wonder plus working perfectly my patching and re-compiling the kernel module (from the wbond thing). However, X wasn't picking up all the buttons, so I used a sweet little program called evrouter to grab the /dev/input/event[x] (where my usb rf receiver was) events and turn them into keystrokes.

Mouse direction and clicks, as well as letter and direction buttons work fine in X with just the kernel and no help.
