Sorry, I didn't cover upgrading MythWeb. Just read the MythTV docs.

I noticed that now after my upgrade to SVN, the mythtv-docs are gone.

I had to recreate /usr/docs/mythtv-0.20 and copy them over from SVN. I don't know if I got them all though. (svn/mythtv/docs/*.html)

I'm not sure if checkinstall did this or how it happened.

I upgraded my R5D1 install with good success using Cecil's guide on both my backend machine and the frontend. It freaked me out getting all of the warnings on the "make" command, but it all seems to have worked great- grabbing data from SD.

The only issue I have right now with the frontend machine is that my IRMAN lirc setup is not working with MythTV right now. I know the lirc recompile steps I went through in the past still work because I can manually run "irw" from the shell and it recognizes my remote codes. I am messing around with this issue now....

Cecil, I thank you for your "as always" excellent support during this transition!

I just did it on my R5E50 box, and it worked perfectly.. not a single problem.

The only visible difference now is that I've lost the "knoppMyth" entry from the main menu, so I can't reboot and such with the remote anymore. But that's not something I ever really did anyway!

See the fix from 'slowbiscuit' on page 6 of this thread.

Guys,

This is what drives me nuts about this forum. I go step by step with the instructions and my box is blown up. It crashed again just now. But I don't see any help.

I mean, I know you all work hard and this is a buyer beware environment... but can somebody at least give me a clue to what could have caused my pain? I'm dead in the water now and pretty frustrated.

Thanks in advance!

What do you mean by crash? Do you just have to restart the BE? Maybe the babysitter script would help as a band-aid to a problem that many have.

I'm not sure what you mean by "babysitter script" but any suggestions would help me greatly.

By "crash" I mean the box completely hung in all ways. Cannot ssh into the box, cannot use direct attached keyboard, mouse won't move, etc etc.

Disclosure- I'm not a linux/myth guru but I get by...sometimes easier than other times.

I've been there on prior updates and sometimes I have to reinstall the prior version (in this case R5F1) from the cd...assuming I've backed up before upgrading. If you do the autoupgrade it has save my butt a few times. Before doing that if you can boot to the terminal and look at some logs it may be helpful.

sorry this is vague but the information so far is not revealing.

Looks like I spoke too soon when I posted that things were mostly working. I'm having serious problems getting my HDHomeRun configured and reliable under the update. Note that I'm using the box for OTA, not cable.

After throwing away the video sources and rebuilding, two bad things happen. First, some of the channels never get a lock, even when there's plenty of signal strength. When this happens, it's 100% reproducible on the same set of channels on all tuners. But if I rescan the channels and try again, a different set of channels can be affected.

The second problem is that during the MythTV channel scan process, some number of channels just don't show up. The channels affected change from rescan to rescan. And the signal strengths of the missing channels are good.

I have rebuilt my configuration over and over and cannot get a complete channel list that also doesn't have the failure to lock problem. I tried updating the HDHomeRun firmware to the latest, but that has not helped.

The only work around that I've found is to use my Air2PC tuner to set up the video source and perform the channel scan. Then I specify the HDHomeRun tuners to use that video source.

This seems to bypass both problems. But it makes me nervous sharing a video source between two different devices. I just don't have enough visibility into how Myth works under the hood to know if this is safe or not.

Given my ignorance in this area, I'm not sure I'm drawing the right conclusion here. But it sure seems like something has changed in the new MythTV "fixes" release that makes it impossible to correctly configure an OTA video source using the HDHomeRun.

I'm pursuing this issue with Silicon Dust's support group. But if anyone here has some ideas about the right way to solve this problem, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks for the advice. But I'm already at R5F1 and it's a new install (7/15 roughtly) with no mods.

I see nothing in the logs. I experience complete system hangs while scrolling through my recorded shows listing, when playing a dvd, when listening to music, the list goes on. Soemthing is forked here.

Should I ask another mailing list? Can someone give me a "next step" or suggestion to get back on track?

None of these problems existed with R5F1 using zap2it. So something happened when upgrading to schedules direct.

I think i read something about this kind of problem in the MythTV timeline. You may have to upgrade from -fixes to Changeset 14374. I don't trust Changeset 14375 since it looks like those changes could affect the recording capabilities of MythTV. Other than that changeset, I see very little problems applying the patches from the later changesets in -trunk.

It appears as of this afternoon Datadirect/Zap2It are still working for my R5F1 MBE:

Quote:
Last mythfilldatabase run started on 2007-09-03 14:32 and ended on 2007-09-03 14:33. Successful.
Suggested next mythfilldatabase run: 2007-09-04 09:55.
There's guide data until 2007-09-16 20:00 (13 days).
DataDirect Status: Your subscription expires on 09/28/07 05:31:59

2. Another step that is important for people using Cecil's instruction who are in R5D1 or earlier (ie, 0.19) is to install the new themes. You can do this as follows:
Code:
svn co http://svn.mythtv.org/svn/branches/release-0-20-fixes/myththemes
cd myththemes
./configure --prefix=/usr
qmake myththemes.pro
make
make install

Thanks!

Marc

Marc, I also upgraded from R5D1 but did not install the new themes. I use Titivillus which was still there after the upgrade however I am having a couple minor issues with it:

1) The text size on the main menu (Watch TV, Media Library, etc.) and on the recordings screen is bigger than it was. When I originally installed Knoppmyth, I'm pretty sure I used the "DPI" option in XF85Config-4 to get the text to the size I wanted. That option now seems to have no effect on these screens, but it does change the size of the text in the program guide

2) Somewhere in the frontend setup there are 2 screens for setting up closed captioning options. In the top left corner of these screens I can see some text that is getting covered up (I can just see the tops of the letters).

Any idea if installing the new themes will fix this?

Just a quick question before I start this process:

Are all the ./configure options listed in Cecil's instructions necessary for a standard KM install, or are some of them for additional mods/add-ons?

I had the same problem when I upgraded from R5E50 to R5F1. I tracked it down to a change in the /home/mythtv/.qt/qtrc file.

There was a different font used.
Here are the differences between what I am running now and what was in the original R5F1 qtrc file:

[code]
/home/mythtv/.qt> diff qtrc qtrc.orig
7c7,9
< font=helvetica,12,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0
---
> enableXft=true
> useXft=true
> font=Sans Serif,12,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0
[/code]

So the helvetica font works better than Sans Serif for me.

Thanks again Cecil.

While I await the release of R5Fx I found your simple clear instructions were painless and perfect. My R5E50 is now up and running on Schedules Direct. Thanks for all you and your crew do to keep us in KnoppMythTv land happy.

I got stuck on the make install I got an error saying I was was out of disk space. My "dev/hda1" was full. (hda3 has 25% free space) When I rebooted X could not boot because there was no space left to write the log file. I deleted some log files and got 1% of disk space available. Mythtv Backend has a segmentation fault. What is my best bet? Can I auto-upgrade R5F1 to R5F1? What is taking up so much space on hda1? I deleted the mythtv, mythplugin directories that were generated and tried again. But I can't seem to figure out how to make enough room to do it.
