I have a new install of R5F1 using a nvidia 6200LE card that is connected to a 42 inch widescreen via DVI. The menu items (i.e. watch TV..) are huge and portions of the screen are cut off as well, like the top part of the H in Home and the sides of the show summary that displays at the top of the screen when you watch tv. The actually tv picture appears to be fine. I have played around with the DPI. First it was at 100 x 100 due to the setting in xserverrc. I removed that setting based on some posts and that switched my DPI to 75 x75 based on what was getting logged in xorg.0.log. One strange things is the the Option "DPI" "100x100" never seems to take affect. With that option there it still always defaults to 75x75, unless I put the entry back into xserverc. This isn't a problem with X. It is a combination of the theme selected, and how you configured Knoppmyth.

I forget wether the default theme is Titivillus, or some other one, but it was what I was using when I experienced this problem. I suspect that the XML files that describe each menu page done't have the text area large enough to handle some of their job. I've really seen this in "Browse" mode of the "Media Library | Watch Videos". You might try changing to the more minimilist "Lilius" theme.

The the "Small" "Medium" and "Big" font sizes that are selected come into play here too. They change how the text will look in each of the themes. I think the default tends to err on the side of helping those with small standard definition screens and poor eyesight.

You change both of these settings in:

Select the Theme on the first page, labled "Theme". Use the Up/Down arrows to select the Theme field, and use the Left/Right arrows to cycle through the availabe themes.

Four pages later (ie select NEXT four times), on the screen labled "QT" is where you find the "Small" "Medium" and "Big" font size selection. Use the UP/Down arrows to select the size name (eg Big), and then the Left/Right arrows to decrease/increase the font size. Changing these sizes has affects in many different areas. For example when I made "Small" to low of a number, I couldn't read the messages in MythArchive progress log as it was making a disk.

Start by trimming a couple of points of each of the sizes, and see what feels right. Be conservative and only try small chages at a time. If down the road you're tying somthing and the fonts are too small to read - well now you know where change them to a bit larger size.

Thanks. I switched to blootubeelite-wide and this has resolved some of my issues with the menus. I still have the issue that edges of the screen are cut off, for example on the window where you select your theme, the program guide, and the watch recordings screen. Also when I am watching live tv the program summary at the top that displays channel information is too long and goes off the left and right of the screen. Any suggestion on where to fix this?

In /home/mythtv/.qt/qtrc try changing the font line from Sans Serif to helvetica.

The positioning and sizing in many of the screens seems to be font dependent, and Sans Serif throws it off for some reason.

Nope. This didn't do anything. The cut off is also happening on the boot screen, for example the first line the system puts up of "LILO" all I see is the O. I loose about this much of the screen all the way around. I don't want to through out any red herrings here, but does this have something to do with overscan? I switch the over scan setting in my zorg.conf to 0.0, but it had no affect.

Take a look at your X log file and see if you've got different virtual and actual display sizes. See the wiki for log file details.

Yep. This bit looks like your problem.

Edit your xorg.conf file. Down in the "Screen" section get rid of the 320x240 modes in each of your "Display" subsections. That should clear up the problem.

My xorg.conf is posted above. I have no 320x240 modes in the Screen section.

That would indicate that it's coming from one of the builtin defaults then. There are ways to disable those, but the real problem is likely that it can't find a "good" 640x480 mode to use. Does the logfile show the X server getting EDID data from the monitor? (There are other things beside the DPI which you have disabled, but I'll have to refer you to the docs.)

See above, but I have specified these options. Is it ignoring them. Where in the log would it indicate that it is using EDID from te monitor? Beside the portion above I found this reference to EDID as well:

Odd indeed. Did you happen to edit your xorg.conf on a Windoze box?

Try copying the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.nvidia.tv.out.sample to /etc/X11/xorg.conf (after making a copy of it, of course) and see if that irons anything out for you.

Nope I've been doing all my editing with pico. I did originally use the nvidia sample, but I went ahead a copy it again, but I still have the same issue so I reverted back to my copy.

I just want to point out that things are getting cut off right at the initial post screen right when the computer starts along with the actually menus inside MythTV.

That's overscan, as you mentioned in a previous post, and would have to be adjusted on your TV itself (if possible, I understand many don't allow this to be adjusted).

What I find odd is the in your log, I have not seen that before so I was wondering if your xorg.conf had gone silly on you...
