Hi,

I finally managed to install the newest nVidia driver (needed for my onboard video to play nice with linux) and the whole installation of C5R27 went smoothly from there on; see
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... c&start=30

However, when I got to the main MythTV menu and chose to watch TV, there was no audio :(

One thing to notice is that in my desperate hours when I didn't know yet how to install the nVidia driver, I tried MythDora 4.0. Had the same problem with the driver, of course :) BUT when MythDora sets up the audio it plays a guitar sound. At first, I couldn't hear anything. Then, I noticed that I had another option to choose from. The option said nVidia and it worked! I don't remember what the first option was.. My onboard audio is supposed to be: Realtek ALC888. No clue why nVidia was the one that worked. But maybe this incident would help starting the troubleshooting procedure!

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

FRA

Run 'aplay -l' on your KnoppMyth R5F27 box and let me know what you get.

First, please please pardon my ignorance :(

But does this mean it won't be using the Realtek ALC888 onboard sound but something else? I guess what I'm saying is that I don't know what this message means:

No Supported PnP or PCI card found.

Would you like to probe for legacy ISA sound cards/chips?

When I say yes, will I still be taking full advantage of the (seemingly nice) onboard sound, or what's going on?

Sorry, that's a lowercase L, not an uppercase I :) If you cut & paste it, it'll work as expected.

Hi,

What kind of hardware do you have? I haven't had to use alsconf for ages and I run some pretty old stuff :) (I like to think, classical)

I usually deselect the yamaha and then turn it loose.. has not killed a box on me yet. If you are able to find a driver, you may have to put an entry in your /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh to modprobe that driver on each boot / reboot. Just that simple, if it can find a driver.

Mike

I didn't try new drivers, but I ended up just sticking in an old Soundblaster Live. Plus, I needed Digital Out for my receiver, and these Biostar boards only come with an S/PDIF header on the board and no bracket to connect to.

I had to do an alsaconf, and it found the card easily and everything worked without a hitch.

tried installing the latest alsa driver:

[code]
cd /tmp
mkdir alsa
cd alsa
wget ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/a ... 14.tar.bz2
tar jxvf alsa-driver-1.0.14.tar.bz2
cd alsa-driver-1.0.14
./configure
make
make install
[\code]

got loads of errors at "make"....
