my PVR 150 I bought a while ago and didnt work at all in R5C7 goes to black screen and makes crashes the system (renders it un-useable)

any ideas?

I saw something in the hints relatin to a black output from the PVR350 could this be the same thing since I use the PVR350 for output?

Probably not. You'd see the same problem while watching stuff with just the PVR-350.

The http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=BlackScreenWatchingTV on the wiki is the most complete reference that I'm aware of for troubleshooting capture card problems. The first step is to look at your logfiles for how the card is detected and what happens when you try to use it. Reviewing your configuration settings is also a good starting point.

unfortunately it is setup correctly, I fear I'll have to recompile the ivtl driver as it is a 150 MCE.

whats odd though is its a diffrent error then I got in R5C7
in C7 it went to snow with audio from like channel 6 (a miss tune)

but in F27 and F1 it wen black and crashed the whole machine

Does not make sense as I know there are 100's of us including myself that are using a PVR-150 without problem. It has worked with every R5 version that came out. Maybe it is your motherboard?

hi,

Since my R5F27 upgrade. My PVR150 is not working anymore. I read a lot on the forum and on the wiki but still no go.

I don't know where to start but for now in the mythtv-setup page capture card setup i have probed info = failed to open. I don't know where to start. The new IVTV seem to make me in trouble but i'm not a linux king.

Anyway i don't use this card very often but i don't like to have something broken too.

The rest of my R5F27 upgrade was flawless.

Thanks
Bob

I am using the PVR-150 without any problems on R5F27, so I can assure you that this card does work on this release.

If you have multiple cards on your system, there is a possibility that you are running into the "udev" problem. In this scenario, the device assigned to your PVR-150 card will change randomly from boot to boot, thus resulting in problems.

Check /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log for errors. Also check /var/log/kern.log for messages that contain the text "ivtv" to see how things went during boot.

Please respond to this post with a list of all tuner cards in your system.

I have 2 pvr-150's and they work fine in R5F27.

I know the newer versions of ivtv use new firmware, and as tjc has mentioned in other posts, you need to completely power off your box for at couple of minutes (as in remove the power cord to insure it's off) so the old firmware clears.

I'm not completely sure, but I believe the firmware update occurred in the ivtv versions (included in Knoppmyth) after R5E50. So, if you're upgrading from that version or earlier you'd need to do the power-off shutdown thing.

To be clear, the firmware is not something you need to "install" but is loaded by ivtv. You just need to make sure the old firmware is cleared from the card by a complete power-off.

Hi,

In the /var/log/kern.log i can see that the PVR was sucessfully installed after the upgrade. So something happened after because on my few last reboot there is no PVR (ivtv) detected.

I have installed the source of Knoppmyth and made a full compile of the source for my LIRC and it's seem to coincide with last detection of the PVR150.

Do you think a have srew up something?

thanks
Bob

Have you tried changing the PCI slot the board is in? I had a similar problem on an older test machine and if I remember right the issue had something to do with the 150 being in PCI slot 0. All was detected fine and there were no error logs. I remember swapping the cards around (at that time I had 2 250's and a 150) and all was fine... Maybe worth a shot.

This is a good idea. Also, post the output of "cat /proc/interrupts" so we can see if there are any IRQ conflicts.

Some motherboards are fussy about which PCI slot you use.

Have you made sure your PVR150 works? Try it in a windows box if you have one, or try loading a Live distro like Ubuntu on that same box and see if you can even tune into live TV just to make sure you don't have a hardware problem.

Which brings us to a good question -- did the PVR-150 ever work?
