I have a PVR-350 in a fairly low-powered box. I have been running R5D1 for quite some time with no problems. I decided to just do an auto install of R5F27, and I'm now having some issues.
I can watch TV and change channels. I can also schedule recordings and watch them with no problems.
However, when I'm watching live TV and I try to get to the program guide, the guide does not come up. MythTV doesn't crash or anything, but I can't get the guide to come up. Never had this problem under R5D1. I can get to the program guide just fine via the Schedule Recordings menu.
When I'm watching live TV and I go to exit out to the main menu, the screen goes black, the audio stops, and everything freezes up. I can restart X and get back to MythTV, but until I do so the whole thing is locked up.
Any thoughts or pointers? Thanks.

I have the same issue... kind of. I have a monitor hooked up to the video card, and my TV hooked up to the TV out of the PVR350. When I try to access the guide, it is displayed on the monitor and not the TV. I have not yet been able to fix this. Anyone have any ideas?

THought I'd update my post... I reran the setup_350.sh script and everything was fine after a reboot.

Good luck!

Make sure you read through the pertinent sections of tjc's upgrade/install guide:

I did several auto installs of R5F27 on my pvr-350 box, and even though CD always tested ok some of the installs had serious quirks (video becoming scrambled after few hours, lockups and black screen) -- Having my curiousity peaked after having different problem every install, I installed again and got a fairly good install.

You try another auto install.. see if things clear up.

I'm having the same problem:

When using the guide while watching live tv the video output is replaced by a solid black box. Restarting X restores normal video.

Everything else works without any problems.

I can view the guide from the main menu just not while video is playing.

I'm using a PVR-250 and video is output via an Nvidia video card to a television set.

This is a minor problem but I'm still curious about a fix. R5F27 is the closest I've come to working right out of the box after upgrade.

There's a link to the fix just 3 postings up. Follow the link to the R5F27 Hints. Search there for "350" using your browsers page search feature. Follow the directions you find there.

BTW - While you're in the neighborhood, please read the rest of it. The hair you avoid tearing out may be your own.

I got everything working. None of the suggestions on the R5F27 Upgrade/Install Hints thread made a difference. I did a fresh auto-install with - as far as I can tell - the exact same settings as before, and all of the problems I was having disappeared.

I also tried the hints in the link above without success. The black box doesn't seem to appear until I exit live tv and try to go back to the main menu.

From live tv I attempt to display the program guide. Nothing happens except a nearly imperceptible shift in the display. When I exit live tv I get a black box instead of the menu. If I position the mouse pointer to the very edge of the screen I can right click and get the fluxbox desktop menu (not the MythTV menu) and select exit. This fixes the display without a reboot.

Similar issue, different hardware, possible work-around.

Channel guide doesn't appear when selected while watching Live TV. Worked in R5F1 but not in R5F27. This problem only occurs for me when Utilities/Setup > Setup > Appearance > Screen Settings > Use GUI size for TV playback is Checked. I used to use this feature with a bunch of offsets entered in X, Y, width and height, to exactly fit the video playback to my TV screen. Worked fine in R5F1 but now I have to uncheck the box with R5F27 or else I can't get a channel guide to appear in live TV.

Nvidia FX5200 using its TVout - no monitor connected
PVR-500 dual tuner
HD3000 HD tuner
(No PVR-350)

Thanks for the tip jzigmyth. My "use gui size for playback" was unchecked. I checked it and my guide will now appear while watching live tv. ---just the opposite of what works on your system. Go figure.
