This is the remote that my 250 (model 980) came with. I think it is not the remote that lirc is setup to use by default. I was wondering if anyone knew the model number of it.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe this is the traditional "gray" remote that KnoppMyth supports by default:

you are correct the one with the mediaMVP is the one knoppmyth is setup to work with by default. I have no idea what the model number is on the new ones or what it takes to make them work, but I guess this is just proof that hauppage has gone and changed something else on us.

I read that thread but I wasn't sure what remote they were referring to - that's why i posted the pictures (I know Hauppauge used to make a black remote and they later switched to a gray one). So I guess it sounds like that thread is talking about my remote.

It looks like I have the same remote as you 3ddd. Now I know that it is indeed a different remote than the default configuration. I saw that other thread before the holidays, but I missed the puch line as I was gone for a week when the solution was posted. I'll have to work on this tonight.
I like everything my Hauppauge card can do, I just wish I could get it to do it all.

I , too, have this remote. I like the key layout a LOT better than the old Hauppauge grey remote, so I am desperate to get it to work. So far I have modified /etc/lircd.conf and /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc as directed for this remote, but still no joy. Am I missing a critical file location?
Thanks in advance,

Have you checked the log files to make sure the daemon likes the syntax of the config files? There is a mention further down the thread of some corruption that you may have been bitten by...

I also have the A415-HPG "silver" remote. Follow the steps in the wiki and you should be in good shape:
http://knoppmythwiki.homelinux.org/inde ... e250Remote
Since the silver remote has a substantially different button layout than the grey one, you'll probably want to tweak your /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc file to your liking.
I'll post my /etc/lircd.conf and /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc files this evening which you can use as a starting point.

Thanks Russ, this works for me -new PVR250 silver remote, model number A415-HPG. Elsewhere in the WIKI only the /etc/lircd.conf is mentioned, editing the /.mythtv/lircrc seems to be the final step.
Some buttons seem to do nothing (GO, HOME), but I am still exploring these.

OW! Russ, you rule. I didn't know the WIKI had been updated yet with that info. Thanks, I am looking forward to giving that a shot when I get home!

I used another file as a base and edited it to use almost all of the buttons (not done playing yet) and fixed a few things. Some of the things I fixed were volume, previous channel, fast foward/rewind and some other things I don't remember. This isn't perfect, but it's working great for me. Oh and I have no idea if the mplayer config works as I haven't sat down to get mplayer working on my box yet but I did add in the volume control there.
Just an alternative if you want it...

I have the A415-HPG remote and the older grey remotes. I followed the directions on the wiki:
1. ran install-i686-l then rebooted
2. copied in the new /etc/lircd.conf
3. copied in the new /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc (I tried both lircrc's suggested in this post - I changed the owner and group to mythtv just in case)
But nothing happens
Is there a log I can take a look at or any way of telling what the problem is? Thanks in advance.

If you are using one of the R5 alphas then lircd doesn't load on boot by default. there are several ways to make this happen which are covered all over the forums and in the R5A? installation docs.
